Dr. Simeons' 'Pounds and Inches' Earns Rave Reviews
Dr. A.T.W. Simeons' seminal work on the HCG diet entitled Pounds and Inches first appeared about half a century ago, but with a resurgence in interest in the HCG diet -- along with hundreds of thousands who are following it -- the book has enjoyed a resurgence, and one critic raves about it, calling the HCG diet itself "a revolutionary concept."
The site Blog Critics, which contains the review, calls Pounds and Inches " a wonderful medical resource on weight management" and further goes on to reveal other achievements of Dr. Simeons's that today go unnoticed because of so much emphasis on the HCG diet.
The site notes: "Dr. Simeons is a pioneer in the study of body metabolic systems. He discovered the use of injectable atebrin for malaria for which he was awarded a Red Cross Order of Merit, and also a new method of staining malaria parasites now known as 'Simeons' stain.' In addition, Dr. Simeons made historic contributions in the treatment of the bubonic plague and leprosy.
The review also does a good job of prefacing why the HCG diet by Dr. Simeons so fits the human life-style, as it originated in the earliest days of humankind.In the beginnings, human ate only when hungry, and they would usually forage for fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts, which were digested easily.
As we humans' digestive systems are much like pigs' and rats' (okay, not a fun comparison but true), eating as we do today in large portions with fatty foods burdens the digestive system, leading often to an accumulation of unwanted -- and unhealthy -- fat.This is where the HCG diet drops come in, as they help control the metabolism through their effect on the hypothalamus.
Then as we shrink our daily consumption of food, while watching what we eat and screening out substances containing sugar and starch that are fat triggers, the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) works its magic so our bodies shed the unwanted, ungainly fat but retain the structural fat and muscle that we need for survival (see our explanation of three types of fat).
Thus 60 years after Dr. Simeons unveiled his "revolutionary concept" (which is really more "evolutionary," going back to our earliest ways of eating), we do indeed have a means at hand to control our bodies and our appetites, even while the culture around us keeps reminding us to eat "three squares" and keeps producing starch- and sugar-laden foods that are just the opposite of what we should be eating.
